- David and Victoria Beckham hopped on social media and reflected on a sweet memory with Brooklyn Beckham in the comments of an Instagram post.
- The comments marks the first time both of them have spoken or written anything directly related to Brooklyn after his Instagram statement.
- Brooklyn's statement claimed that his parents were controlling, and ruined parts of his wedding to Nicola Peltz Beckham.
If you've been desperately chomping at the bit for the updates in the Brooklyn Beckham vs. the Beckham family saga, look no further—David and Victoria have finally made public comments on social media after Brooklyn's scathing takedown of them on Instagram, and what they said definitely worthy of a brow-raise.
On Friday, British photographer Platon shared two photos that he took of David in 2006. In the images, the then-soccer star posed shirtless and with his back to the camera to show off his tattoos of sons Brooklyn, Cruz and Romeo's names. Platon shared an intimate story about a sweet behind-the-scenes moment on set in the post's caption.
“Victoria arrived with Brooklyn, who was seven years old, Romeo, who was four and Cruz, who was just a baby. Brooklyn and Romeo charged into the studio wearing football kits, kicking balls, doing headers and other tricks,” the photographer wrote. “While Victoria was busy with the children, I started work with David. At one point, Brooklyn ran on set with his football under his arm and hugged his dad’s right leg. Then, Romeo joined his older brother.”
“Then, Victoria also appeared with baby Cruz in her arms. The whole family turned away from us for a private heartfelt group hug. It was a poignant thing to see—this spontaneous moment of affection happening on a giant photography set in front of 60 people,” the caption continued. “Celebrity comes with a heavy price and often it is family members who also pay.”
Naturally, the post went triple platinum, and even saw David and Victoria flocking to the comments section. “Good memories,” David wrote with a heart in the post, while Victoria commented that the photo and the caption “brings back great memories!”
Not sure if David and Victoria's comments are meant to act as damage control, but in Brooklyn's scathing Instagram post read around the world, he critiqued his parents for their “performative” social media usage: “For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into. Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they'll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade.”
Brooklyn also alleged that Victoria danced with him inappropriately during his wedding to Nicola Peltz Beckham, writing, “In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I've never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.”
This portion of the statement has since been confirmed to be true as Stavros Agapiou, partner of British DJ Fat Tony (who worked the wedding that night), wrote in a since deleted Instagram comment, “I was there and she did, he's telling the truth” and “Good on him for finally speaking out!” according to the Daily Mail.
In the time since Brooklyn's incendiary post, David gave an awkwardly timed interview with CNBC's Squawk Box and talked about kids using social media.
“I’ve always spoken about social media and the power of social media — for the good and for the bad,” he said not even 24 hours after Brooklyn's Instagram statement. “What kids can access these days, it can be dangerous. But what I’ve found personally, especially with my kids as well: Use it for the right reasons.”
Sigh...
